2012 has been pretty great so far at BMW of Riverside and the good news just keeps rolling in. We've recently found out that after unprecedented success, BMW is planning on expanding its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant for the 5th time! There has been so much demand for the X brand that BMW is counting on the Spartanburg plant to pump more out and start producing the BMW X4!
The expansion calls for the creation of 300 new jobs this year while $900 million (!) will be dropped into the plan over the next two years. With the expansion, Spartanburg will be able to produce an astounding 350,000 vehicles during the mid-term. Riding on the success of the bmw 3 series, Spartanburg was able to increase its production by 73% delivering 276,065 cars to over 130 countries! Since the plant began in 1994, it has grown from 500 to 7,000 employees during its four previous expansions and produced a total of six distinct BMW models.
What help makes the South Carolina plant so amazing is the advanced technologies at work to protect our environment. One very cool feature of Spartanburg is that nearly 40% of the total electricity used by the plant is generated from methane gas converted from a nearby landfill! Through their efforts, Spartanburg has dramatically reduced their energy and water consumption, C02 emissions and overall waste over the past five years and the number keep getting better and better each year.
The additions to the Spartanburg plant are sure to have a positive effect on BMW of Riverside in the near future. BMW is company really going places and trying to give back to the world. If you have any questions, feel free to call, e-mail or just go on ahead and swing by!
