The finance office is where the car you picked becomes one you own or lease. At BMW of Riverside, that appointment covers five things. We verify your ID and insurance, review your credit disclosures, finalize the loan or lease, produce the contract, and go over optional protection products. Nothing in that last group is required to buy the car or to get approved.
Buyers at our showroom on 3060 Adams St. often read the contract line by line before signing. That is the right instinct. Every figure should match the deal you agreed to. To check what to bring, call our finance team at (888) 713-6529.
The review follows a set order. First we verify your identity, income, and current auto insurance. Then your loan or lease terms are finalized against the lender’s decision. Next the contract is produced, with itemized charges, taxes, registration costs, and your rate. Optional protection products come last.
BMW of Riverside uses indirect lending. We send your application to lenders instead of lending to you ourselves. A lender approves an amount, a term, and a wholesale rate called the buy rate. The rate on your contract may match it, or include a dealer reserve margin. You can ask what the buy rate was. It is a fair question.
Government-issued and matching the name on the contract.
On a lease, BMW Financial Services requires comprehensive and collision coverage with a deductible of $1,000 or less, plus state-minimum liability.
Recent pay stubs or tax documents. BMW Financial Services requires proof of income on every application.
A utility bill confirming your current residential address.
Title and payoff documentation for your current vehicle.
Running numbers on our payment calculator beforehand helps set expectations.
No optional add-on is a condition of buying a car, getting approved, or getting a certain rate. In California, a GAP waiver cannot be required as a condition of financing. Any product financed into your contract must also appear on a written itemized price list that shows your payment with and without it. That rule comes from the California Car Buyer’s Bill of Rights.
Those protections grow on October 1, 2026. That is when the California Combating Auto Retail Scams (CARS) Act, Senate Bill 766, becomes operative. From that date, dealers must state in writing, clearly and before you sign, that every optional add-on is optional and that you can buy or lease the car without it. Dealers also cannot charge for add-ons that give no real benefit, and they must keep consent records for two years.
Protection products have their own cancellation windows, and they are not all the same length. Refunds apply against what you still owe.
The California New Motor Vehicle Board publishes these rules in its consumer FAQ.
| What you’re cancelling | Full-refund window | After that window | Conditions and fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| GAP waiver | Within 30 days of purchase | Pro rata refund of the unearned portion | Cancellable at any time; no cancellation or termination fee may be charged |
| Vehicle service contract on a new BMW | Within 60 days of receiving the contract | Pro rata refund based on elapsed time or mileage | Written notice required; full refund applies only if no claim has been made; a cancellation fee up to the lesser of 10% of the contract price or $25 may apply |

An outside pre-approval from a credit union or bank gives you a rate ceiling before you walk in. Bring it. BMW Financial Services often runs promotional APRs, lease support, and loyalty programs that outside lenders cannot match. A competing offer lets our team shop your application across several lenders.
Rate shopping will not wreck your credit. Scoring models group auto inquiries made in a short window and count them as one. Newer FICO versions use 45 days. Older FICO versions and VantageScore use 14. You cannot tell which model a lender will pull, so myFICO advises keeping applications inside the shorter window. For tiers and approval odds, see what credit score you need for BMW financing.

The buy rate is the wholesale rate a lender approves based on your credit profile. The contract APR is the rate written into your agreement. It may include a dealer reserve markup. Asking for the buy rate shows you how the two compare before you sign.
Yes. A GAP waiver can be cancelled any time with no fee: full refund inside 30 days, pro rata after. A vehicle service contract on a new BMW gives a full refund with written notice inside 60 days, if no claim has been made, and pro rata after. Refunds usually reduce your balance.
